PRIDE OF BURGUNDYThis vessel is an example of a most versatile cross-Channel ferry operable on different routes for combined transport of passengers, private cars, trucks, trailers, coaches, caravans etc. With its completion in 1993, SSW has delivered another version of its varied range of ferries.

The "Pride of Burgundy" represents a modified repeat ship of a series of three roll-on-roll-off cargo ferries which had been delivered in 1992 to the P&O European ferries owners (see "European Seaway").

Due to the wide experience of SSW in designing and building ferries, the new concept of the vessel as both a passenger and cargo ferry, delayed the projected building period only for two months. Having been launched as a roll-on/roll-off ferry, the change of design was implemented within a rather short time. At any rate, the vessel's passenger capacity was to be boosted to 1330 daily passengers.

As had already been the case with the previous buildings or parent ships the yard's accomodation department was commissioned to design the enterior accomodation. Due to the relatively short crossing times of a maximum of 75 minutes, upon conceiving and designing, the requirement of a well-balanced service as well as rapid embarking and disembarking of passengers, constituted the basic pre-requisites.
