Precision works on a grand scale - SSW builds lengthening section for „Stena Hollandica“

Parallely to the prospering newbuilding business SSW Schichau Seebeck Shipyard continue their activities with the hull component production. On Friday (26. Januar) here in Bremerhaven a 50 meters long and 29 meters wide lengthening section was launched from the slipway. With this module of more than 3000 tons in total Lloyd Werft wants to lengthen the British channel ferry „Stena Hollandica“ to 240 meters.

The floatable waist is the largest of the modules which SSW is producing for the Lloyd Werft order. Additionally to the lengthening section the yard supplies the new superstructure sections by which the passenger areas of the forward areas of the „Stena Hollandica“ shall be enlarged.

With the building of the new center section SSW proves anew the large know-how and the special precision of their hull component building capacity. In the docks of the Lloyd Werft the buyoant waist of in total eleven decks height will be floated between the fore and aft ship of the „Stena Hollandica“ and has to fit accurate to a millimeter. After about five months building time the order including smaller steel works will be finished on the premises of the Lloyd Werft end of February.

From the point of view of the SSW management this Stena order punctuates how important a diverse landscape of companies is for the Bremerhaven shipbuilding location and how good the cooperation of the local firms is. Last but not least because of the supplies out of the fishery harbour Lloyd Werft could secure with Stena Line the large order for the lengthening of the two Channel ferries.

The hull component production belongs to the main business areas of the SSW yard alongside newbuilding and major repair projects. Amongst others the company recently carried out the steelworks for a 155 meters long mega yacht and afore for several container vessels of the type SSW Super 25.

In the newbuilding business SSW presently works on the building of another yacht hull and on the newbuilding of four feeder vessels of the type SSW Super 1000. This proprietary development has caused a large demand in shipowner circles because of their special economic efficiency.

Parallel zum florierenden Neubaugeschäft setzt SSW Schichau Seebeck Shipyard die Aktivitäten im Teilkaskobau fort. Am Freitag (26. Januar) lief hier in Bremerhaven eine 50 Meter lange und 29 Meter breite Verlängerungssektion vom Stapel. Mit dem insgesamt über 3000 Tonnen schweren Bauteil will die Lloyd Werft die britische Kanalfähre „Stena Hollandica“ auf 240 Meter verlängern.

Das schwimmfähige Mittelschiff ist das größte unter den Bauteilen, die SSW für den Lloyd-Auftrag fertigt. Neben dem Verlängerungsstück liefert die Werft die neuen Aufbauten, die die Passagierbereiche im vorderen Abschnitt der „Stena Hollandica“ vergrößern sollen.

Mit dem Bau des neuen Mittelstücks stellte SSW erneut das hohe Know-how und die besondere Präzision im Sektionsbau unter Beweis. Das insgesamt elf Decks hohe schwimmfähige Mittelschiffsteil wird im Dock der Lloyd Werft zwischen das Vorder- und Achterschiff der „Stena Hollandica“ eingeschwommen und muss auf den Millimeter genau passen. Nach rund fünf Monaten Bauzeit soll der Auftrag einschließlich kleinerer Stahlarbeiten auf dem Gelände der Lloyd Werft Ende Februar abgeschlossen sein.

Der Stena-Auftrag unterstreicht nach Ansicht der SSW-Geschäftsführung, wie wichtig eine vielfältige Unternehmenslandschaft für den Schiffbaustandort Bremerhaven und wie gut die Kooperation unter den ansässigen Firmen ist. Nicht zuletzt dank der Zulieferung aus dem Fischereihafen konnte sich die Lloyd Werft bei der schwedischen Stena-Line den Großauftrag über die Verlängerung von zwei Kanalfähren sichern.

Der Teilschiffbau gehört neben Neubau und Großreparaturen zu den wichtigsten Geschäftsfeldern der SSW-Werft. In jüngerer Zeit fertigte das Unternehmen unter anderem den Stahlbau für eine 155 Meter lange Megayacht und zuvor für mehrere Containerschiffe vom Typ SSW Super 25.

Im Neubaubereich arbeitet SSW derzeit am Bau eines Yachtkaskos und an vier Feederschiffen des Typs SSW Super 1000. Die Eigenentwicklung hat durch ihre besondere Wirtschaftlichkeit in Reederkreisen eine große Nachfrage ausgelöst.
